Floyd's Piano Group

Music To Your Ears

Everyone deserves the knowledge and appreciation of music and anyone can learn.

Lessons run from January through December which gives us approximately 48 lessons each year to improve. Some months have 4 classes and some months will have 5 classes. The more time you spend with the instructor, the better.

Tuition is easy: You pay a set monthly tuition fee and attend class each week. Attendance is important as are recitals/performances.

Unfortunately, due to a very busy schedule, traditional make-up lessons aren’t possible. There will be opportunities to “catch-up”, so if you miss class due to illness or travel, don’t worry. You will have the chance to attend a different music class :)

Lessons are held each week and your tuition payment actually reserves a seat in class. By reserving the space on the schedule, you will always have a slot on the teaching schedule no matter how many students are in class. If you stop paying tuition, you forfeit you seat.

Finally, here are some general responsibilities:

Parent Responsibility-Encourage practice, engage while your child plays music, check homework, and communicate with the instructor.

Teacher Responsibility- Teach music methods, inspire creativity, empower healthy communication.

Student Responsibility- Practice and be obedient.

Why do we teach music?

We believe that everyone has an innate ability to be creative and music is an excellent way to 'exercise' the creative muscle! Whether you simply want to entertain yourself, family, friends, or a sold-out venue, you'll be amazed at how easy learning music can be when you have the right teacher. Traditional music lessons are great for some people, but they aren't for everyone. Genki Music means we implement a more intuitive curriculum that is specifically tailored around your  learning style and your goals.

Meet An Instructor: Mr. Floyd

Floyd1.jpg

I'm a 35 year old music teacher and I believe that music is crucial for people's happiness. I believe everyone can learn to play and compose music with the right motivation. Due to my training and experience, I excel at finding ways to utilize each students' method of learning to bring out the best in them. My playing style varies depending on the instrument and setting. Being classically trained on piano and violin, I prefer to play the classics with a mix of pop & rock. On the drums I'm really into heavy metal and jazz. On electric & acoustic guitar I stray more towards rock/pop/country, while bass guitar mostly gets the blues and anything else in-between. I also produce electronic dance music on my computer and keyboard. I've been teaching music since 2013 and playing music since I was 4 years old. My past instructors were highly sought after and accomplished musicians. A few of my previous teachers were: Nina Mavrinac (violin), Arkadiy Grinman (classical piano), Jeff Ryder (drums & electric guitar & bass guitar), Mary Crumplin (church organ/piano), Mark Pierce ( jazz piano). More information is available upon request.

  Improvisation & Creative Expression

Because the curriculum is specific to each student, every student will learn to feel at home on their instrument of choice with engaging lessons and homework. That's right...we assign homework. Students will learn traditional core concepts, but special attention will be given to improvisation and creative expression to any student willing to learn.

Performance Experience

Even the most experienced musician benefits from playing in public. Each student is required to play instructor-selected songs for a small home performance or a larger venue. Overcoming the fright of being onstage teaches our students 'mindfulness'. This is a ncesscary skill for blocking out distractions while playing.
